Pet Cremation Options for Newark Families

We offer three types of cremation. Which one is right depends on whether you want your pet's ashes returned, and whether you wish to be present.

True Private Cremation

Your pet is cremated alone, in a machine designated only for them, and the ashes returned to you are your pet's alone. This is worth being precise about, because the language varies across the industry. Some providers place several pets in one chamber separated by dividers and still describe the service as private. When we describe a cremation as private, your pet is cremated alone in a machine designated only for them. We do not use a separation method and describe it as private.

Your pet carries a chain of custody identification number for the entire time they are in our care, which is how we can tell you with certainty that the ashes you receive are your pet's.

Group Cremation

Group cremation is for families who do not wish to receive their pet's ashes back. Multiple pets are cremated together, and when the cremation is finished the ashes are scattered on cemetery property. It is a respectful and more affordable option, and many families choose it because they already know how they intend to remember their pet.

Witness Cremation

Witness cremation is for families who wish to say goodbye in person. You may view your pet and be present as they are gently placed into the cremation chamber, and remain on site until the cremation is complete and the ashes are returned to you.

Pickup From Your Home or Your Veterinarian

Bringing your pet to us yourself can feel like too much in the middle of a loss. Pickup is available throughout our service area, so you can stay with your family while we bring your pet into our care. If your pet has passed at home or at the veterinarian, call us and we will schedule a time to collect them. If you would prefer to bring your pet to us, you are welcome to do that too.

Newark and the rest of New Jersey sit inside our regular service area. Call (973) 885-2000 and we will arrange collection.

What Is Included

For a private cremation, the service includes:

  • Pickup of your pet from your home or veterinary office
  • Cremation with a unique pet identification number
  • An impression of your pet's paw
  • A cherry wood urn with an engraved name plate

Additional urns, keepsakes and personalization are available through our memorial shop, which carries urns for dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and horses, cremation jewelry, ink paw and nose prints, clay custom prints and pet caskets.

Which Pets We Cremate

Any type of animal can be cremated. Dogs and cats are the majority of what we care for, and we also serve families with birds, rabbits and other companion animals. Horses are handled through our dedicated horse cremation service. If you are unsure whether we can help with your pet, call and ask. We would rather answer the question than have you assume the answer.

Cost and Financing

Pricing depends on your pet's weight and the cremation option you choose, and we are clear about what is included before you commit to anything. Cost should not stand between a pet and a dignified goodbye, so for families who would like to spread the cost we offer financing. Call us and we will give you the figure for your pet's situation.

Euthanasia at Home

When a pet is suffering and there is no path back to comfort, pet euthanasia at home lets your companion stay in familiar surroundings with their family. With one call we can arrange for a licensed, on-call veterinarian to come to your home, evaluate your pet and perform the euthanasia. It avoids the stress of a final car journey for both of you, and we can coordinate the cremation as part of the same arrangement.

Burial and Exhumation

If cremation is not the right choice for your family, we also offer pet burial and exhumation in New Jersey for families who want a physical resting place.

Specialty Services

Some situations need more than a standard arrangement, and our specialty services cover them. If you need to understand why your pet died, we can arrange a pet autopsy, known as a necropsy, transporting your pet to and from the pathology lab and working with the veterinarian throughout. If your pet has passed in one state and you wish to bury them in another, we handle shipment of remains, including the arrangements, the paperwork and the airline. The founder is a licensed funeral director, so we can also co-mingle a pet's ashes with those of a family member who has passed.

Planning Ahead

Pre-paying for your pet's cremation can bring real peace of mind, because the arrangements and the payment are already in place before the day arrives. Our pre-plan service lets you choose the type of service you want and either prepay in full or set up automatic monthly payments. The price is locked in and is not subject to later cost increases.

Who You Are Calling

PetsToRemember was founded on the principle that pets are family and should be treated as such at the end of their lives. Our founder, Victor J. Galante II, is a fourth generation funeral director and a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. The standards that apply to caring for a person's family are the standards we apply to caring for your pet.

Private Pet Cremation Newark, NJ (True Private)

A true private pet cremation is when a pet is placed in a cremation machine by themselves with no other pets, no different than a human.

Many crematories will say a cremation is private but in fact use a separation method for a private cremation. This is done by placing multiple pets in a machine in different pans and only running the machine once to reduce the costs.

This is NOT done at PetsToRemember. We cremate every pet by themselves in a machine designated for them.

Group Pet Cremation Newark, NJ (No Ashes Returned)

This cremation is performed for families who wish not to receive their pets ashes back. Multiple pets are placed inside a cremation machine and when the cremation is finished the ashes are scattered on cemetery property.
